ImprovItalian

IMPROVITALIAN STUDENTS – LEARN ITALIAN THROUGH IMPROV!

ImprovItalian is a workshop that is proposed in two different ways both for teachers and students. The students, through this workshop, will find a new learning method, closer to their linguistic goal: using italian to communicate. Techniques as the TPR (Total Physical Response), recreational teaching, theatre and improvisation hold student’s hands in their journey through the Italian language. Furthermore, beside the teaching value, this workshop carries a double impact: the cognitive and the emotional one.

The student’s emotions and desires are taken into consideration and expressed through the language by the students themselves; this is what makes ImprovItalian such a valuable learning method: it touches all the spheres of the individual involving them in a 360 degrees way of learning, they start talking, forgetting they are doing it (Krashen, Rule of Forgetting). As Confucius says: I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. The workshop has a big impact on the students motivation because he sees the applicability of what he is doing and a real and practical use of what they are learning.

“Students gain self-esteem; speaking comes more natural.” – Emre

Improvisation has been recognised as new art pretty recently and it’s facing a boom in US on the academic level, performative level and managerial. This art’s potential has been proved as very eclectic with a remarkable impact on people. This is possible because on the base of it we have rules of active listening, acceptance, spontaneity and authenticity, collaboration and storytelling, management of the unexpected and more that are allowing us to work directly and indirectly (like in our case) on ourselves as individuals more aware in the society.

“Normally I think in Turkish and I translate, but with these games I directly think in Italian. ” –    Zeynep

IMPROVITALIAN TEACHERS – TEACH ITALIAN THROUGH IMPROV

ImprovItalian teachers is helpful both for experienced teachers or new birds. The workshop represents a moment of training and professional growth giving teachers new tools to face and excel in their daily job.  Getting to know new methodologies is a mandatory duty in our profession as it is to keep on finding a new motivation and new ways to see and transmit our messages and our thoughts.

ImprovItalian represents both of them: the teacher is provided of new techniques, games and theatrical activities but is also asked to play themselves and perhaps get to know them better a bit more.

“This method changed the perspective of my approach to teaching. It’s easy to engaged the students and being engaged myself. ” – Mary

ImprovItalian can be applied to every language on earth for its nature of teaching technique. It’s a core part of the training a teacher-trainer group work aimed to make what has been learnt more practical and usable in class at the top of its potential.  Teachers will leave from this experience richer in terms of personal and professional growth, in terms of teaching techniques and with a basic knowledge of the improvisation and theatre’s world. If a group of colleagues participate also the dynamics among the group will receive benefits from it and will help to understand better the people we are working with, that’s why is highly recommended to participate in a group as departments.

“I found this method a very useful tool to introduce, revise a topic and even a powerful instrument for student’s self evaluation.” –  Irene
