WonderFULL cycle, WonderFULL Women! No more taboos on menstruation!

WonderFULL

Exercise: Repeate the words below, out loud for ten times:

Menstruation! Period! Cycle! Blood! Vagina!

Menstruation, or period, is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman’s monthly cycle. Every month, your body prepares for pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, the uterus, or womb, sheds its lining. The menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from inside the uterus. It passes out of the body through the vagina.

It is 2018, it is unacceptable that we are still victims of this taboo. Menstruating it is not just the most natural thing on hearth, like breathing, eating, peeing, having sex, giving birth. it is amazing, incredible, wonderFULL!

During the past two years, I found out I had a benign tumor, a myom, in my huterous. Because of its position, it effected my entire body. Hormones, weight, hernia, reflux among other things. But of course mostly effected my period. Completely out of cycle, like a rebel. Incredibly painful. Incredibly moody and aggressive. Too much blood lost and emoglobine/Iron problems. As a couch, I started to work on myself and research how to accompany the medicine therapy with some supportive work on myself. Not surprisingly I found out that I had problems on the 1st chakra, in the same position, and that I had a very bad relationship with my period. I hated it infact. I would have done everything to avoid it. And when I had it I would close myself to the world for how it had power on me.  Fortunately my passion in life and in my job gave me the energy to work on it, and now I even included this topic in my trainings with women as a priority to connect with ourselves. The myom is still there, less aggressive and less dangerous, but thanks to the therapy, I am way better. But the work on the connection with my body and my feminine energy is still on and it will always be because I am a WonderFULL Woman, and I am so lucky to have a WonderFULL cycle to synchronize with!

1 – First of all, dear fellow women, let’s stop using metaphor, nick-names, the rag, the crimson wave, aunt Flo, flying the red flag, gestures, sygnals, just to say that we have period. Just say it!

Mike: “You look sick, are you ok?”

Christine: “Yeah actually I don’t feel at my best, but it is normal and natural, I have my period/I am mentruating”.

The interesting thing is that even among women we don’t call it for what it is. “It is that time of the month”, “women’s sickness”, “women staff”, etc. PERIOD! MENSTRUATING! When we are not freely calling for what it is, we don’t even realize that we growing the taboo, giving a bad example and setting our mindset on the wrong mood.

2 – Mindset: The story we tell ourselves are so important, they actually guide our emotions, our moods, our actions, decisions and every consequences. Let’s not think about it as something shameless, impure, dirty, negative, something related to a sickness, a sin, the worst par of our life, the worst part of ourselves and our body, the worst part of being a woman. Let’s actually switch our mind completely on the opposite direction. Period is natural, normal, a gift, something amazing, special, incredible and WonderFULL! Why?

  • Our senses are heightened. This includes our sense of taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing. So be become more aware!
  • We dream more frequently. During our Moon Time, we are much more likely to experience lucid as well as prophetic dreams. So fascinating!
  • Our energy is focused inwards. This makes us less emotionally available for other people, and more focused on the lessons we need to learn about our lives.
  • We are more intuitive. Our increased sensitivity at the time of menstruation makes us more receptive and open to life.
  • We are in the process of death and rebirth. In other words, this time of month is the perfect opportunity to “let go” of old patterns, habits and thoughts that no longer serve us. This is physically expressed through the release of our womb’s blood.
  • We are detoxing, purifing, cleaning. We are so lucky to have the chance to do so. We should be grateful for it!

3 – Don’t hide buying tampons, paths, menstrual cup! It is the most natural thing in the world and it is your right. It is just one of the item in your shopping, nothing to be ashamed of! I am so lucky that it was so normal for my father buying them for us and now for my husband. If you are easy about it, everybody else will become easy about it!

4 – Food to avoid during your period: carbonated drinks, processed food, legumes, fried food, refined grains, high-fat foods.

5 – Food you should eat during menstruation cycle: pinapple, yougurt, legumes, whole grains, broccoli and Kale, miso, shoyu or tamir. Nuts, nut butter, seeds, soybeans, lentils, spinach. Blueberries, raspberries. Salmon. Watermalon, oranges, bananas. Dark chocolate. Tea: lemon balm, peppermint, ginger tea!

6 – Magnesium and Vitamin D will become your best friends!

11 – Learn about the 4 phases of your period:

Phase 1: Follicular Phase (6- 14 days long) – Creative Superstar. Here you have the most access to creative energy that you will the entire month. Hormones are at a low point and your body is starting to increase estrogen in particular. You are open and ready to try new things. This is a good time to start new projects at work. Plan the month ahead do some project management. Break out the excel document and plan. Brainstorm with people in meetings. Dream big. Mastermind how you will take over the world.

How Women Feel: energetic, outgoing, motivated and productive. As estrogen increases, energy rises. Likely to feel a strong need or desire to make changes and take action.

Enhanced Skills: mental creativity, willingness and ability to learn, clarity, concentration, independence, physical stamina, optimism and sociability.

Optimum Time To: build self-confidence, catch up on the things that could not be achieved during the menstrual phase. It is a good moment to set goals and plan incremental steps towards it. This also seems to be the right time to start new lifestyle regimes, make changes in life and work and dive into new projects.

To Avoid: getting frustrated if it feels like people around us are not keeping up with our energy and focus.

Phase 2: Ovulatory Phase (15 – 17 days) – The great communicator Communication and collaboration skills are at the highest all month. The brain chemistry you have during this phase heightens your verbal skills. This is a great time to have important conversations. Maybe ask for that raise, plan to negotiate deals, work with your vendors.  Since you will be the most irresistible try to plan ahead of schedule. You are a magnet.

How Women Feel: loving and giving, patient and nurturing. Generally less action-orientated, less assertive, less determined to complete projects and fulfil personal needs. The sudden hormone changes come with intensified emotions.

Enhanced Skills: flexibility, ability to compromise, playfulness. More openness to understand where other people’s input comes from and therefore less sensitivity to criticism.

Optimum Time For: communication, empathy, productivity, team work, supporting others, emotional creativity and creating relationships. Thanks to the enhanced patience to persuade, it is the optimal time to negotiate and network.

To Avoid: because the high progesterone levels can cause bloating, lowered libido and possible sluggishness, it is advised to cut down on caffeine, reduce sugar intake and stay hydrated.

Phase 3: Luteal Phase (18-28 days) – Power The luteal phase is the Power phase for getting things done.  You are most task oriented and feel the most pleasure at completing projects during this. And thank goodness this is the longest phase of the cycle. It’s easy to focus and pay attention to minute details. We are able to leverage this attention to detail to accomplishing pretty flawless work product. Wrap up projects, bring things to completion, do administrative type tasks, your accounting, submit your monthly reports, your expense reports

How Women Feel: decrease in stamina and energy, emotional and mental turbulence, and at the same time passion.

Enhanced Skills: creativity, problem identification and problem solving, assertiveness

Optimum Time For: using intolerance to fuel the clearing out of mental, emotional and physical mess. Powerful phase for change, growth and healing. Good time to cleanse yourself and prepare yourself for the new cycle.

To Avoid: not the best time to try and solve things and situations confronting people. It is wiser in this phase to think about them on our own. Not a good time to start projects and regimes. It may also be wise to avoid taking major decisions during this phase.

Phase 4: Menstruation Phase  (1-5 days long) – Intuition and Reflection  Course correct, evaluate, listen to that gut feeling. Your right and left brain hemisphere are communicating much more powerfully across the corpus callosum. You are able to access the analytical and intuitive reasoning. Reflect on the past month. How was your performance? How are you getting along with your colleagues? Are you working on the projects you care about? Is your job going in the direction you want it to? How are you thinking and feeling about your business as a whole? What are the big changes you need to make to stay happy and successful in your job and career?

Reflective phase – energy levels are low, there is an increased need for sleep and lack of concentration.

How Women Feel: lack of energy due to low estrogen levels, increased need for sleep, cramps. Possible feeling of disconnection, but it’s important to keep in mind that it’s a temporary feeling.

Enhanced Skills: inner reflection, new ideas, intuitive creativity, renewal.

Optimum Time To: slow down, nurture the body, reconnect to what is important to us and spend time for self-care. The menstrual phase is the perfect moment for a fresh start and for looking at things with a new perspective. It is the right time to look at goals set for yourself in the past and assess whether they are still serving your purpose or you need to let some of those go. Be self-loving.

To Avoid: unwillingly getting in social situations, worrying too much about external responsibilities. Trying to fix others and ourselves. Don’t expect to be dynamic and energetic and prefer gentle physical activity over very intense one. Be careful not to feel victimized by other people’s criticism or feel overwhelmed by external demands.
